The Bees of North Carolina: An Identification Guide

Hannah Levenson and I made a book! This guide introduces the most common groups of bees in North Carolina, with identification tips. With 560 species to choose from in the state, this book won’t fill you in on every species…but it will help you recognize some of the most common genera and a few stand-out species.

The original version of this guide was written and self-published for use in our bee identification workshops. It went over so well that we thought the rest of the world might like to see it, too.

After peer review and some design tweaks from the NC Cooperative Extension system, we’re happy to announce that the book is now available for purchase from UNC press, or for download as a free pdf. Get to know your bees!
